Our story

Denver's best diners for
nearly fifty years.

When the Michel brothers came to Denver from North Dakota in 1979, they set out to open cafes that felt like the small home-town diners they grew up loving. Affordable, generous, home-cooked.

Today there are three Butcher Block cafes. The one on 38th sits in a small, blocky building in the middle of a fast-changing RiNo, steps from the A Line and Mission Ballroom, with the old Pepsi plant across the street. Inside: a kitchen-view counter, vintage booths, and a griddle that has been going since before sunrise for decades.

Come hungry. Sit at the counter. Order the green chile.
